Please introduce the members and share what special traits and skills each one contributes to the group!
Strangers is a four-piece instrumental band. Although we all come from different musical backgrounds, we meet in the middle through the melody, groove, and joy of playing together.

[I’m the keyboardist and] shape many of the band’s melodies and harmonic colors. [My] experience studying in Los Angeles is part of what gives our music its open, sunlit feeling, while [my] pop sensibility keeps the songs direct and memorable.

[Guitarist] Elias Thiago brings a distinctive guitar tone and intuitive phrasing. His playing can be lyrical one moment and powerful the next, adding movement, color, and spontaneity to the band’s sound.

[Bassist] Keisuke Fujita is the bridge between melody and rhythm. His bass lines give the music warmth and forward motion, and he has a strong instinct for finding the groove that lets every song breathe.

[Drummer] Akira Yamamoto brings energy, dynamics, and a real sense of momentum. He knows when to push a song forward and when to leave space, which makes the band feel both tight and alive onstage.

For those who have not heard your music before, how would you describe it to them? How would you finish the sentence “Strangers is ___” or “Strangers’ music is ___”?
“Strangers is an instrumental band making music you can sing even without vocals or lyrics.” We combine the openness of West Coast music with elements of rock, pop, funk, and fusion, but the center of everything is always a melody that stays with you. Because there are no lyrics, we hope each listener can place their own memories, scenery, and emotions inside the music.
What is the story behind how the band was formed?
Our beginning was a little different from that of a typical band. Strangers originally came together as musicians supporting other artists. During costume changes and other transitions, we sometimes needed to play instrumental music on our own. That led us to start writing songs, and little by little, the band took shape.

What is the story specifically behind how the band name was chosen?
The name comes from the idea that we are a gathering of people with different values, musical tastes, and perspectives. There are many things people cannot fully understand about one another, yet each of us believes in what feels right within our own sense of justice. Musicians may be a gathering of strangers in that sense, and we felt that name captured who we are.

Please describe your new album, Between Us!
Between Us is a ten-track album built around melody, memory, time, distance, and the feelings that remain after a moment has passed. The title points to the invisible space between people — the things that are shared, remembered, or left unsaid. Without lyrics to define one meaning, we wanted each track to become a small open scene that listeners could connect with in their own ways. It is also a snapshot of the musical conversations that exist among the five of us.

Please talk about each of the songs on Between Us:

“Echoes”: An invitation into the album’s world. It is about the way a sound, a place, or a moment can stay with you and return unexpectedly.

“TIME”: A song shaped by the feeling of time always moving forward. Its pulse and flow reflect how we carry memories with us even as everything changes.

“Karate Chop”: The title has a playful, sharp energy, and the track follows that spirit. It is one of the album’s more immediate and punchy moments, driven by groove and momentum.

“TOKYO”: Tokyo is an exciting city, but the way it feels can change dramatically depending on your state of mind. There is always a certain loneliness in it for us. We wrote this song hoping we could still spend our time there as peacefully as possible.

“Morning in Pasadena”: This one carries a calm, bright atmosphere inspired by a West Coast morning. It is about light, space, and the feeling that a new day can open up in front of you.

“Séparés”: The title is French for “separate.” It is always sad when you part from friends you have worked alongside, but we believe there will be a time to meet again. We made this song with the hope that people would not be too sad and put that sense of continuing connection into the music.

“Hiiro”: This is the fastest and most intense track on the album. We simply wanted to make an energetic song.

“Anata To”: A single released in December, with the wish “May I be with you again next year.”

“After the goodbye”: A song about the loneliness that comes after saying “Goodbye” or “See you again.”

“DARARAN” (ft. Tani Yuuki): A collaboration with an artist we support. We are very happy that this song became a reality and could be released; everything we wanted to say is contained in its lyrics.

How did you decide which songs would be pre-released singles from Between Us?
The order in which songs were finished was one factor. More than that, we considered what needed to be released at that particular moment [based on] the season and the timing.

What are your short-term and long-term career goals?
In the short term, our goal is to make the “HELLO, STRANGERS!” tour in Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Tokyo a success. We want each show to be a shared experience, not simply a performance. What happens after that is just as important. In 2027, we want to become more active, putting more energy into touring and recording. Long-term, we want to keep creating work that travels beyond language and geography, play in more places around the world, and grow our audience.

Lastly, is there anything else you want to say about yourself or about Strangers?
Thank you for listening to Strangers. We care about melody, groove, and the emotional space music can create. We would be happy if each listener could find their own voice, memories, and scenery in our music. We look forward to meeting more people through our music and sharing moments of memory and [the] future, one song at a time.
