The band members talk about their style, stage presence, and game-inspired single. Photo courtesy of Right Hands Please introduce yourselves and share what special traits and skills each member contributes to the group! All: Hey, nice to meet everyone! We are FRankly, the band that spreads genuine music from the soul! Ato: Hey, this is Ato, and I’m in charge of the drums! I have a variety of entertaining facial expressions, and I think I spread positivity through my smile when I perform. Besides the drums, I can also show you my rap and narration skills! Seunghwan: Hey, this is Jung Seunghwan, and I’m in charge of the vocals and guitar. Because I am a decent height, it's easy for me to see the crowd and be noticeable. I think [I] have a unique voice and my gestures get the crowd hyped: hearts, guitar smashes, and more. Hyungchul: Hello, this is Na Hyungchul, and I am in charge of the guitar. I show various motions when I play, and I think I’m great at riding the rhythm, so to speak. Also, when we perform “Girls! Girls! Girls!,” fans enjoy our jumps! I also thought of an answer for our bassist, Koo Donguk, who is currently serving his time in the military. I think his special traits [include] his large hands that help when he plays [bass]. Also, he has incredible stamina; he can move around vigorously when we perform. He is great with his jumps, too! For those who have not heard your music before, how would you describe it to them? How would you finish the sentence “FRankly is ___” or “FRankly’s music is ___”? Seunghwan: I would say it’s like the smell of soil after a rainy day, the chatter of kids after class, [or] sometimes even the taste of some nice booze. All these descriptions can be [summarized with] one word: “youth.” What is the story behind how you became a band? Hyungchul: Seunghwan and Donguk knew each other during their high school years, when they met in cram school. I got to know Seunghwan because I participated in his guitar activities. When Seunghwan was almost finished with his military service, he wanted to be part of a band, so he contacted Donguk. When Donguk contacted Ato, who he knew [from] attending the same university, FRankly was officially created. Please describe your newest single, “Duck Season”! All: It's inspired by the [horror video game] of the same name. The game is about the main character encountering [what] children his age played, leading to a tragic end. We named the song “Duck Season” to tell the listeners to believe in [their] own perspectives and stories, instead of following another person’s agenda. What are the biggest similarities and differences between Frankly I… and FRANKLY I…AM FREE!? Hyungchul: The biggest similarity is [bringing] various genres of music into one album. The biggest difference [is] that Frankly I... was created by us and the producer Joe Layne. FRANKLY I...AM FREE! was created by us coming together after the EP to create an album solely birthed by us. What are your short-term and long-term career goals? Ato: [Our] short-term goal is to release new music and put on a lot of good performances, and [our] long-term goal is to continue to create good, enjoyable music, and to be [in] festivals overseas! Photo courtesy of Right Hands Lastly, is there anything else you want to say about yourselves or your music? Ato: I think FRankly's music gives off a colorful feeling. It's a variety of things, but the fact that our music is a story that is truthful to [us] is what gives us our spark. Please show us a lot of love. Thank you!
