A Programming Update

7/26/2021

I am currently dealing with technical difficulties that my podcasts’ host platform, Anchor, is addressing. I have been making many episodes in the meantime that are ready to publish as soon as they complete their work, so although my shows are in an unintentional (and unwanted) hiatus, they are coming back as soon as possible!

Here is what you can expect once I release the backlog of episodes:
  • Several more episodes in the “BTStudy Guides” series, which dives deep into the meanings of various sources of literary inspiration for BTS!
  • An exclusive interview, including spoilers for a female soloist’s upcoming comeback, behind-the-scenes stories from the making of SEVENTEEN’s new album, and lots more!
  • Recaps of and commentary about the latest K-pop headlines!
  • Episodes of How to Stan with topics ranging from Disneyland to famous singers!
  • A countdown of the top twenty new releases from July 2021!
  • And even more!

In the meantime, please:
  1. Take a moment to rate and review 17 Carat K-Pop on Apple Podcasts; it really helps boost visibility!
  2. Take some time to check out my website’s updates. New interviews you can read include conversations with DAVII, HI CUTIE, JVEH, MANACLE, and more!
  3. Catch up on previous episodes, including my personal favorites:
  • 17 Talk, Vol.5: Your Choice: This episode serves as a complement to “The Artistry of SEVENTEEN.” Hope explains how SEVENTEEN’s new mini-album tells unique, layered stories and how it builds on the storytelling they began in their previous musical eras.
  • Taemin’s Encore:  Building off of previous Taemin-dedicated episodes of the show, new theories are laid out about the dual roles Taemin plays in his music videos and where his characters’ stories go from here.
  • Epik High is Here!: This episode explores the many layers of meaning in Epik High’s songs, the threads connecting their stories from their different musical eras, and the messages in their new album!
  • Autism and Fandom: In honor of Autism Acceptance Month, Hope uses personal stories to describe five things allies to the autistic community should know, and she reflects on how being autistic shapes her feelings around and involvement in fandom culture.
  • Previous interview episodes

    And previous “BTStudy Guides” episodes:
  • “Magic Shop” explores the themes throughout both Into the Magic Shop by James R. Doty and his research on the mind-body connection. The song “Magic Shop” by BTS is used to further explain Dr. Doty’s thoughts on the power of kindness to heal and the importance of de-stigmatizing mental health.
  • “Black Swan” summarizes the characters and plot in the movie Black Swan, examines the film’s psychological and social commentary, and draws connections to the messages in BTS’s music and videos.
  • “Omelas” compares and contrasts the messages told through BTS’s “Spring Day” music video with “The One Who Walks Away from Omelas” by Ursula K. Le Guin and Demian, the story discussed in “BTStudy Guide #1”!
  • “Demian” breaks down the many ways BTS alludes to the characters, symbols, and themes in Demian by Herman Hesse throughout the “Wings” Era music videos.
